PAY RANGE:

KGS-05:  Between 17,407 Won and 24,972 Won

TOUR OF DUTY: 40 hours per week

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All current USFK KN employees

NOTE:  1. This position requires drug testing. The selectee must sing DA Form 5019 requiring participation in drug testing as a condition of employment prior to appointment. 2. This position has been designated as essential to the basic military missions or safety and protection of human life and property under the SOFA Joint Committee Memorandum of 29-Aug-1974, at the 97th SOFA joint Committee meeting. The occupant of this position is prohibited from participation in any collective labor disruptive actions. Participation in such action will constitute grounds for disciplinary actions as provided under the provision of USFK 690-1, USFK-KEU Labor Management Agreement, and Article XVII of the SOFA.  3. Relocation Allowance will NOT be authorized for the selectee from outside the commuting area. 

MAJOR DUTIES:

KGS-5: Assists dentist by performing such duties as seating patient, adjusting chair and draping patient; laying out instruments and handing them to dentist; mixing amalgams according to prescribed procedures; cleaning and sterilizing instruments, arranging in proper order in cabinets; keeping records of conditions found and treatments rendered, entering such data to diagrams of the mouth as directed by the dentist; maintaining appointment book and keeping area of dental chair in clean and orderly condition.
May also perform dental hygiene tasks under immediate supervision of dental officer. Such tasks may include removal of calculus deposits, accretions and stains from surface of teeth; and administration of prophylaxis treatment.  Orders and stores dental supplies and maintains dental equipment in clean and operative condition. Obtains and records information relative to medical history of patient, routes patients for medical tests and services, when required. Sets up instruments, equipment, and materials for a wide variety of non-surgical and surgical treatments, and assures that they are present and properly arranged, in accordance with requirements for sterility. Anticipates the dentist's need at each stage of operation. Performs the following: passes instruments and materials to and retrieves them from the dentist; illuminates field; retracts and stabilizes tissue; keeps field free of debris using irrigation solutions, suction tip and evacuator; applies hemostats to bleeding vessels; cuts sutures. observes patient for signs of adverse reaction to treatment. Assists in monitoring patient by noting vital signs. Adheres to necessary aseptic precautions throughout treatment. Following surgery, irrigates surgical site, prepares surgical dressings, and removes contaminated instruments and materials using precautionary procedures. Packages tissue specimens and routes to pathological laboratory. Changes and removes surgical dressings and removes sutures, as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:  One year of specialized experience at KGS-04 or the equivalent.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible technical experience in the specialty field in which the duties of the position are to be performed or in closely related lines of work. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY: The approval of management panel to determine English conversational skill is required.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: An applicant who has completed a 3 year course of study above high school leading to an associate’s degree in the medical and health care support fields will be qualified for KGS-5 positions, if he/she has also acquired a ROKG issued or recognized license or certification related to the specialty or occupation.
